BASIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT NOTES THE ARREST OF THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE NORTH WEST EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga, has noted the arrest of the
Administrator of the North West Education Department this morning.
The person was arrested earlier today with two other people on charges related to his
previous role as Municipal Manager of the Greater Tubatse Municipality in
Limpopo.
The Hawks said in a statement earlier today that the arrest is related to the ongoing
VBS Mutual Bank investigation.
Minister Motshekga is looking into matter and is considering appointing somebody
else to occupy the position of Administrator in the interim.
The Department of Education, together with other departments, in the North West was

placed under administration (in terms of Section100 (1b) in 2019 following irregulari-
ties related, among others, to supply chain, finance, human resources and audit find-
ings of the Auditor-General.

The Administrator was appointed to assist the Department with a turn-around plan.
In view of the latest developments Minister Motshekga will move swiftly to appoint
another person to take up the role of Administrator.
At the time of appointment there were no charges levelled at him and his assumption
of duty as Administrator was approved at the appropriate the platforms.
