According to the International Labour Organization and UNESCO, October is named Teachers’ Month thus providing the Department and broader society space to acknowledge, appreciate, honour and to profile the outstanding work done by our hard working teachers.
The MEC for Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba is of the view that there is no better time than now to extend gratitudes to teachers.
“The year 2020 has been the most challenging year with the advent of the COVID -19 pandemic that devastated lives, livelihoods, families and disrupted the schooling system for months.
This disruption brought uncertainties in livelihood and the way things are generally done while it also directly or indirectly exposed a lot of communities to trauma.
Teachers had to soldier on by being at school, providing class lessons and learner support under trying and at some point hopeless situations.
Teachers had to withstand the hardship brought about by COVID 19 to be pillars of strength and to provide assurance to learners and the greater community of a promise that tomorrow will still be a better day”. MEC Majuba
The theme for the 2020 World Teachers’ Day is:
“TEACHERS: LEADING IN CRISIS, REIMAGINING THE FUTURE,”
