Imfundo Family prioritises safety

As part of preparations for the return of learners to our classrooms, the Imfundo Family has been looking at various mechanisms to sanitise, fumigate, deep clean, procure personal protective equipment (PPE) for learners and teachers, as well as follow our prepared plan for the return. Owing to a note released by the National Treasury that reprioritised the central procurement of PPE, that says we have to now procure locally, we have had to shift the dates that had previously been communicated about teachers returning to schools.

We are in the process of procuring the PPE and other sanitation goods, via the proper supply chain methods. This will be done correctly, but will take some time, which will impact on the return date of school management teams and teachers. Officials at head office and districts who were back working from offices will continue doing so, while other staff work from home. We are all working as speedily as possible to ensure that learners’ and teachers’ lives are not put in any danger, while we save this academic year and beat COVID 19.

“Our message to learners and parents is this: if you are in Grade 12, please do register for the eLearning program so that you can get the resources as soon as we release them, on To all our other grades, we will continue with the audio lessons on community radio stations, as well as resources on our website, to make sure no learner is left behind. We will communicate all changes to parents, learners, officials and other stakeholders in time,” said Education MEC Fundile Gade.
