Grade 2 Learner from Sikhulisile Primary School Found Dead
The department is shocked to learn of the discovery of an 8-year-old grade 2 learner from Sikhulisile Primary School in Ekangala, who was found dead in the bushes yesterday afternoon, 22 November 2018. The deceased learner was found facing down and wearing his school socks. The learner could not be identified due to the extensive injuries on his face.
The school immediately called a parent’s meeting to establish the family of the missing child. One parent said the deceased learner was her child because of the clothing and the brief; however, the family will only be able to identify the deceased learner at the Bronkhorstspruit mortuary today.
The department’s Psycho Social Unit has been dispatched to the school to provide counselling to the school community.
Fire at Roosevelt High School
The department can confirm that alternative arrangements are in place for the Grade 12 NSC exams and internal exams at Roosevelt High School today, despite the fire that broke out at the school last night. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this stage and no suspect has been arrested.
The department would like to extend a word of gratitude to the Roosevelt Park Fire Fighters and the surrounding community who responded within minutes to extinguish the blaze before any further damage to the school infrastructure.
“We are deeply saddened by these developments and trust that law enforcement agencies will get to the bottom of all incidents. We wish to extend sincere condolences to the family of the deceased learner and Sikhulisile Primary School community, on the loss of one of their own,” says MEC Lesufi.
