The Eastern Cape Department of Education, in partnership with the Disability Sector, under the coordination of the Eastern Cape Disability Economic Empowerment Trust, will, during the Disability Awareness Month (3rd November to 3rd December 2018), be hosting disability awareness workshops throughout the province as part of the month’s campaign.
This week, on the 20th of November 2018, the Education MEC, Mlungisi Mvoko will lead a delegation to converge at the Madzikane Hospital Hall, Alfred Nzo West. The delegation will visit the district as part of mobilising districts for the coming Provincial Inclusive Education Indaba.
Additionally, the session will facilitate comprehensive and in-depth presentions by the people from the Disability Sector and the contents of the white paper on Disability will be discussed.
According to the department’s Head of Department, Temba Kojana, the workshop is designed to promote understanding and knowledge of the white paper to all stakeholders who are expected to implement it, as well as to explain its benefit and monitor. “The workshop will also focuses on educating participants on the abilities and competencies of persons with disabilities while assisting to understand how to remove barriers surrounding this matter”, said Kojana.
“It will further assist in the promotion of children with disabilities against abuse and discriminatory practices and lastly will promote the enrollment of learners with disabilities in full service schools”, promised Kojana.
