The Gauteng Department of Education has moved with speed to provide counselling and support to Noordwyk Primary School, and concerned parents following the death of a Grade 5 learner. The learner was among 8 learners from Noordwyk Primary, who were injured in a car accident on their way home from school on Thursday, 1 November 2018.
The learners were traveling to Ivory Park, when the unfortunate accident occurred on Allan Road after Dale Road crossing at approximately 15:30. Some learners were taken to Tembisa Hospital, whilst the deceased learner was taken to Carstenhof Clinic, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Counsellors from our Psycho-social unit were at the school today, to provide the necessary support to traumatised learners, parents and staff. The injured learners have all been discharged from hospital.
The department wishes all injured learners a speedy recovery, and extends sincere and heartfelt condolences to the parents, friends, family and school fraternity of the deceased learner of Noordwyk Primary School.
