The Mpumalanga Department of Education in partnership with Transnet Foundation  will host a Teenage Health and Development Programme to be held as follows:

Venue : Phola Location Community Hall( Ogies) Emalahleni Local Municipality.

Time : 10H00

Transnet Teenage Health and Development Programme (THDP) is a brainchild of Transnet Foundation formed to empower and restore the dignity of adolescent boys and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The programme also intend to  address the intricate challenges that young school boys and girls face such as bad behavioral challenges at school, high rate of teenage pregnancies, school drop-outs, sexual and gender-based violence, substance abuse and so on.

It assist the young school boys and girls to embrace themselves, be comfortable in their own skin, have self-confidence, walk with dignity and realise their full potential.

The programme is targeted to benefit a total of 1400 beneficiaries in the Mpumalanga Province (900 girls and 500 boys) and utilizes child participatory methods to teach them the importance of managing their health and making appropriate and responsible health choices.

To re-enforce lessons provided to beneficiaries through three educational workshops, Transnet provides each learner with three dignity pack comprising of a toiletry hamper of soap, toothpaste, a toothbrush and a roll-on at each of the workshops.

Each learner receives a child friendly teen journal and health education resource focusing specifically on adolescent health issues.

“We really appreciate the partnership to develop the youth and learners of the province with Transnet Foundation.
This initiative is a good investment not only to the wellbeing of our learners but also to the safety of communities and goes a long way in fighting social ills such as gangsterism, drug abuse, violence and teenage pregnancies amongst others. ” said the MEC for Education, Mr. Sibusiso Malaza.

The Executive Mayor of Emalahleni, Cllr Linah Malatjie and the MEC for Education, Mr Sibusiso Malaza will grace the occasion.
